BRATISLAVA, March 28, (WEBNOVINY) – Ex-judge Jana Dubovcova took up the post of the public defender of rights on Wednesday, March 28, when she took the oath of office before Speaker of Parliament Pavol Hrusovsky.

The new ombudsman Jana Dubovcova considers it an honor that parliamentary deputies proposed and elected her to the post. The post of public defender of rights is important not only due to reasons provided by the Constitution and law, she noted. “Ten years ago, Slovakia joined the countries that committed to introduce principles of good administration and gradual improvement of life of the people in this country. Holding my post, I am able to be involved in this process more, so that people can say Slovakia is a good place to live in,” the new ombudsman said.

Hrusovsky thanked outgoing ombudsman Pavel Kandrac for the work he did on the post over the past ten years. Kandrac was the first ombudsman. He was in office for two consecutive terms.

Jana Dubovcova was elected to the post in December of last year being nominated by deputies for the outgoing ruling coalition partners SDKU-DS, MOST-HID and SaS. Dubovcova is a non-partisan, but was elected to parliament on SDKU-DS slate.
