President Leaves for an Official Visit to Iceland

BRATISLAVA, September 19, (WEBNOVINY) – On Sunday, President Ivan Gasparovic left for the first official visit to Iceland, where he wants to send an impulse for more intensive relations with this island country in the North Atlantic Ocean, as well as support its EU aspirations.

The head of Slovakia plans to express interest in an intensive bilateral dialogue in economic cooperation, in cooperation in research and development, in particular in the pharmaceutical industry and in the use of geothermal energy. The president is to meet with his counterpart Olafur Ragnar Grimsson on Sunday. On Monday, he is to meet Speaker of Parliament Asta Ragnheidur Johannessdottir and Prime Minister Johanna Sigurdardottir. The president is to meet with Foreign Affairs Minister Ossur Skarphedinsson, too.

From Iceland, President Gasparovic will continue his journey to the U.S.A. on Monday, where he will take part in the 65th session of the UN General Assembly in New York. The president is accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Mikulas Dzurinda.
