BRATISLAVA, August 24, (WEBNOVINY) — According to Interior Minister Daniel Lipsic, the General Prosecution Office supports opposition SNS MP Igor Stefanov and independent ex-KDH MP Andrej Durkovsky in their prominent positions. As Lipsic said at this Wednesday’s Cabinet session, both of them should face criminal prosecution. “I’ve said it several times already: it is unacceptable to have a class of individuals in Slovakia who are above the law, who always find someone who will support their exceptional position. Today, unfortunately it is the General Prosecution Office doing this,” stated Lipsic.

The minister also said that the investigators as well as supervising prosecutors share the position that the deputies should be prosecuted. However, this is not possible without the parliament waiving their immunity. Yet only the General Prosecution Office can ask parliament to lift their immunity, which it has not done yet.

Lipsic hopes that the functioning of the General Prosecution Office will improve after implementing the changes adopted at the initiative of this government. “I really think that the time has come to as soon as possible eliminate the class that can do anything, or that thinks it can,” noted Lipsic.

According to the investigators, Durkovsky should be responsible for issuing a demolition permit in the case of Bratislava’s cultural center PKO; former Minister Stefanov was involved in the so-called bulletin board tender at the Ministry of Construction during the Robert Fico Cabinet.
