BRATISLAVA, July 12, (WEBNOVINY) — A general retail sale ban on all state and public holidays will not become a part of the Labor Code revision. Deputies turned down the amending proposal submitted by KDH deputy Julius Brocka together with opposition SMER-SD deputy Viera Tomanova that was to extend the ban on retail sale, which currently applies to January 1, Easter Sunday, Christmas Eve after 12 p.m. and Christmas Day by additional fourteen holidays.

Furthermore, the proposal of the so-called Ordinary People group to allow employees to take a day off on Monday or Friday when a public or state holiday falls on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday did not make it to the draft Labor Code revision, either. Thus, the support for the new wording of the Labor Code by the entire ruling coalition is questionable, as this proposal was one of the conditions demanded by the four Ordinary People deputies in exchange for their support for the entire Labor Code amendment. Parliament is to vote on the Labor Code revision itself on Wednesday, July 13.
