BRATISLAVA, July 2, (WEBNOVINY) — On Monday noon, Pope Benedict XVI. dismissed Archbishop Robert Bezak of the pastoral governance of the Archdiocese of Trnava. The Pope decided on the basis of the apostolic visitation, which was held from January 22 to February 1, 2012 at the Archdiocese of Trnava. The Bishops’ Conference of Slovakia received the decision of the Holy Father in the spirit of faith and filial obedience and asks for a blessing for the Church in Slovakia.

Bezak was born on March 1, 1960, in Handlova. He studied at the Theological Faculty in Bratislava. He was ordained on June 17, 1984 in Banska Bystrica. He was appointed Archbishop of Trnava on April 18, 2009.

Pending the appointment of a new archbishop for Trnava, the archdiocese will be managed by Auxiliary Bishop Jan Orosch as apostolic administrator „sede vacante“. This means he would be reporting directly to the Holy See. The appointment of an administrator is a temporary solution.
