Vodohospodarska Vystavba has not yet announced an international tender for the supplier of turbo generators repairs at hydropower plant Gabcikovo. It is expected to do this by the end of March.

Next week, a year will have passed since the government took over control over the hydropower plant Gabcikovo. The operation of the largest hydropower plant was entrusted to the state-owned company Vodohospodarska Vystavba. Before, it was leased by Slovenske Elektrarne for roughly nine years under a lease contract. A 66-percent-share of Slovenske Elektrarne was owned by Italy’s Enel. The entire takeover process was controlled by Prime Minister Robert Fico. In his words, one of the reasons why the state decided to take over the Gabcikovo power plant was Slovenske Elektrarne’s inaction in connection with the general overhaul on the power plant. Today, one year after the takeover, it is clear that the state-owned company Vodohospodarska Vystavba has failed to start repairs too. Vodohospodarska Vystavba has not yet announced an international tender for the contractor despite several promises given last year. The company blames the previous operator of the power plant.
