Most green electricity made from biomass

In Slovakia, 2,230 GWh of „green“ electricity was generated in 2016.

Biomass still plays a major role in electricity generation in terms of the renewable energy sources (RES). A half of the „green“ electricity was generated from biomass last year. The data published by the Slovak Electricity Transmission System (SEPS) showed that biogas and photovoltaic power plants had a 25-percent share on electricity generation, biogas over 24 percent and solar power plants less than 24 percent. In Slovakia, 2,230 GWh of „green“ electricity was generated in 2016, an increase by less than 2 percent year-on-year. The share of the renewables on the total electricity generation was about 9 percent.
