Slovakia is not self-sufficient in electricity generation

Last year’s electricity generation in Slovakia reached over 27,000 GWh and electricity consumption almost 31,000 GWh.

The increase in electricity consumption recorded in Slovakia over the past years has stopped despite steady economic growth. „The electricity consumption did not beat the record of more than 31,000 GWh recorded two years ago. According to the preliminary data provided by Slovenska Elektrizacna a Prenosova Sustava, Slovakia’s total electricity consumption reached 30,911 GWh last year, a decline by 0.5 percent year-on-year,“ Slovenske Elektrarne informed. Electricity generation in Slovakia dropped from 28,026 GWh in 2017 to 27,113 GWh in 2018, which is a 3.3-percent decline. „The volume of electricity imports rose last year,“ Slovenske Elektrarne, a dominant electricity producer informed.
