BRATISLAVA, April 19, (WEBNOVINY) — The Supreme Audit Office (NKU) will be the authority to resolve the current dispute between Prime Minister Iveta Radicova and Finance Minister Ivan Miklos. Both agreed to accept the results of the audit to the case of rending the building for the local tax authority in Kosice by the Tax Directorate. “The prime minister, finance minister and SDKU-DS chairman will closely watch and evaluate the continued process of providing headquarters for the Kosice Tax Office as well as the course of the NKU audit, for which the prime minister asked Speaker of Parliament Richard Sulik,” said SDKU-DS Chairman Mikulas Dzurinda after this Tuesday’s session of the party’s leadership. Dzurinda added that they will evaluate the audit’s results and will take a joint position toward them. “We are sincerely interested in being informed of the audit’s concrete results,” he underlined.
At a press conference this morning, Finance Minister Miklos said that Prime Minister Radicova has succumbed to media pressure when she demanded the resignation of Tax Directorate head Miroslav Mikulcik. However, at the party leadership meeting, Radicova was not blamed for this. SDKU-DS Chairman, former Prime Minister and incumbent Minister of Foreign Affairs Dzurinda also denied comparisons with cases of the previous government. “Have you forgotten the emission allowances?” asked Dzurinda. He also said that his party is being criticized by an individual who denied his own voice. “Politics is not a holy trade but we try as much as we can,” the minister emphasized.
Dzurinda also expressed support for Radicova by claiming to respect her positions and statements. He also underlined that his party never laundered money and does not want the current case to fade away without resolution. According to Dzurinda, he’d also like to introduce the battle with cronyism to the SDKU-DS statute.
A disagreement between Radicova and Miklos has arisen due to differences in their opinions on the accountability of Director General of the Tax Directorate Miroslav Mikulcik in the case of the Tax Directorate leasing a building in Kosice. Radicova appealed to Mikulcik to resign, while Miklos has asked him to remain in office. The two Cabinet representatives are sticking to their positions. However, Radicova claims to respect Miklos’ personal competencies in his department.
