BRATISLAVA, December 4, (WEBNOVINY) — The Czech energy group CEZ wants to sell its 49-percent stake in the Nuclear Energy Company of Slovakia (JESS). Through this company, CEZ was supposed to participate with the Slovak state-run company Nuclear Decommissioning Company (JAVYS) in the construction of a new nuclear power plant in Jaslovske Bohunice. Prime Minister Robert Fico confirmed this at the HNclub event on Tuesday. „I can say very openly that the Czech Republic wants to withdraw from this agreement and currently a partner is sought who will replace CEZ in the company JESS,“ he stated.

A new partner in JESS should be known within three months, specified the prime minister. Fico said he would not mind any partner who would observe certain rules pertaining to safety and economic advantageousness of the project of constructing a new nuclear power plant in Jaslovske Bohunice. “It remains valid that Slovakia has an immense interest in continuing and building a nuclear power plant, one more new block in Jaslovske Bohunice. We do not have any ideological prejudices. We will not take in to consideration at all whether it will be somebody from the United States, France, Russia or another country. Ideology of a country can never influence our decision, mine and of my government,” he stated.

The Nuclear Energy Company of Slovakia is currently analyzing a feasibility study for the project of construction of a new nuclear power plant in Jaslovske Bohunice. According to the published par of the study, the new nuclear power facility could start trial operation after 2025. Its installed capacity could be up to 2,400 megawatts. Within the feasibility study, six projects were analyzed of pressurized water reactor power plants from suppliers Areva, Atmea, consortium MIR 1200, Korea Electric Power Corporation, Mitsubishi and Westinghouse . The study showed as well that that the most advantageous model of securing the main contract is a turnkey delivery, including all supplies and services pertaining to the construction and launch of operation.

According to original plans, the new nuclear power station was to be built on the site of the currently decommissioned reactors of the V1 nuclear power plant in Jaslovske Bohunice by 2020 while the preparatory phase was to close in 2014 when the construction itself was to commence. According to original plans, the new power plant was to cost from EUR 4 billion to EUR 6 billion.

JAVYS was set up in late 2009. It is a joint venture of the Slovak Nuclear Decommissioning Company that owns 51-percent stake and the Czech energy group CEZ that controls 49 percent. The share capital is EUR 216.357 million. Based on the agreement of partners, equality and consensus of both partners applies to managerial control. The first government of Robert Fico chose CEZ as a strategic partner for the nuclear power plant project based on a survey carried out by the Economy Ministry led by the then Minister Lubomir Jahnatek.
