BRATISLAVA, April 18, (WEBNOVINY) — Tax Directorate Director General Miroslav Mikulcik enjoys the trust of Finance Minister Ivan Miklos who on Monday called upon his nominee to stay in his post. “I do not see any relevant reasons for his departure from the post. Verification of all facts convinced me that Director General Mikulcik acted in compliance with public interest and with laws,” said Miklos in a statement.

Prime Minister Iveta Radicova on Thursday called on the Tax Directorate director general to accept political responsibility, obtaining the opportunity to clear his name and clarify the terms of the conclusion of the rental contact on a building in Kosice. “I am aware of my responsibility but also of my competencies. I emphasize that as long as I am the finance minister it will be exclusively the minister who will decide on personnel issues and changes at the department,” Miklos stated.

Opposition SMER-SD leader Robert Fico accused Mikulcik (a Miklos’ nominee) of having secured a multi-million euro deal for regional head of SDKU-DS in Nitra Ondrej Scurka. Fico referred to leasing the building for Tax Office in Kosice for which the Tax Directorate was to pay about EUR 6.6 million over five years as a perfect example of cronyism and therefore Finance Minister Miklos should resign. Unless he resigns or is recalled by prime minister, SMER-SD will initiate a no-confidence vote in her.

The company Nitra Invest, which is at the center of a political scandal, has sent to the Tax Directorate of the Slovak Republic a letter announcing its withdrawal from contract concerning the lease of the building of the Tax Office in Kosice. The Tax Directorate has issued a call for new bids.
