BRATISLAVA, August 31, (WEBNOVINY) — Germany’s Foreign Affairs Minister Guido Westerwelle will visit Slovakia on Friday, September 2. Together with his Slovak counterpart Mikulas Dzurinda, they will ceremonially open the school year at the German School in Bratislava, a private school with an international education program. The school is to become a part of the Slovak school system as of September 1 of this year.

The ministers are expected to debate issues related to the euro area’s future, its stability, the outlook of Greece, Eastern Partnership, Ukraine, Belarus, the western Balkans, and the Arab Spring. According to the Slovak Foreign Affairs Ministry, the year of 2011 can be labeled a German year in the Slovak foreign policy due to a high intensity of bilateral contacts. German Chancellor Angela Merkel visited Slovakia in March, while President Christian Wulff is to pay an official visit to the country in September.

Slovakia’s President Ivan Gasparovic is to receive the head of German diplomacy, too. The ministers will later together travel to Poland for a traditional informal meeting of EU foreign affairs ministers (Gymnich), taking place on Friday and Saturday organized by the Polish EU Presidency in Sopot and Gdansk.
