BRATISLAVA, October 10, (WEBNOVINY) — The police have charged a female officer from the Office for Fight against Organized Crime in the case of the recently leaked so-called „Mafia“ lists, informed Interior Minister Daniel Lipsic on Monday. She stands accused of abuse of powers. She was charged after she failed polygraph tests.
Last week when media published the lists, Lipsic stated that the police in every country make lists of criminals and organized groups; otherwise it would not be able to disband those gangs. This information, is, however, classified. Lipsic further said that it is rather common that criminal groups try to get information on who the police are working on. In this case, the publication of the lists was an attempt to discredit the police and the Interior Ministry, the minister opines. It is a sign that “we are on the right track”, he added.
Police President Jaroslav Spisiak however dismissed the information that these lists feature mafia figures. He said that leaked were sets of names that are grouped in certain units serving the police for documenting crime groups in Bratislava. The police say that only a portion of the database was leaked that provides basic general orientation for the authorized employees of the office. Spisiak underscored that their information value is minimal and their leak will not mean any threat to activities of the office. Spisiak said that one of the lists has been penned by the police, when his predecessors were at the helm. “During our intensive investigation, we have found that a certain list of interest groups was drafted in March 2010. We do not know exactly what its purpose was,” he said for TV Markiza.
The NOVY CAS tabloid published the lists without surnames and personal data, while TV Markiza disclosed lists with names, birth register numbers, car registration numbers and firearms license numbers as well as photographs. The lists feature alleged criminals, their lawyers, and business partners as well.
