BANSKA BYSTRICA, December 18, (WEBNOVINY)- The KDH Council has elected the remaining five members of the party leadership on Saturday. Peter Bobula was re-elected secretary for regions while Peter Mach replaces Andrej Durkovsky in the post of chairman of the KDH consilium. The KDH Council elected them at the proposal of party chairman Jan Figel. Further three members of the leadership are Peter Belinský, Peter Muransky and Alojz Pridal. The KDH Council picked them from candidates proposed by regional organizations.

Regarding the repeated failure to nominate Durkovsky as head of the consilium, KDH Chairman Jan Figel explained that this election has nothing to do with the capital of Bratislava the mayor of which Durkovsky had been until November municipal elections while the issue of the Bratislava Culture and Leisure Park has no association with how the KDH develops its policy. Figel underscored that the KDH does meddle in decisions of competent bodies. He added that Mach has experience from national, regional and local levels. Figel considers him capable of managing the consilium, which he expects should produce under Mach’s leadership a basis for the new long-term program of the KDH within two years.

The KDH has also adopted a statement on freedom of religion in the world suggesting that religion-motivated violence is on rise while direct and indirect persecutions of the Christians in disguise of proclaiming various new human rights have been growing as well. The KDH rejects this and asks constitutional officials and official institutions of the Slovak Republic that the topic of the freedom of religion and human rights observance be part of the agenda of their meetings with foreign partners.

The KDH started exchanging its leadership at the December 4 congress. The congress re-elected Jan Figel party chairman and Daniel Lipsic, Julius Brocka, Jana Zitnanska and Ivan Uhliarik remained deputy chairpersons. New deputy chairmen are Pavol Abrhan and Jan Hudacky. Maria Sabolova who stood for re-election did not get sufficient support from the delegates while Anton Marcincin decided to not run for re-election.
