Minister Dzurinda Visits Belgrade

BELGRADE/ BRATISLAVA, January 6, (WEBNOVINY) — Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Mikulas Dzurinda was rewarded for the contribution of Slovakia’s diplomacy to progress achieved in the European integration of Serbia, including unblocking the Serbian application to join the EU in October of last year. Dzurinda was invited to speak as an honorary guest at a meeting of Serbian ambassadors in Belgrade. On Tuesday and Wednesday, he was in Belgrade at the invitation of Serbian Foreign Affairs Minister Vuk Jeremic, the press department of the Slovak ministry informed.

In his speech, Minister Dzurinda highlighted the positive changes in relations between the EU and Serbia in the past year. He pointed out the key topics for Serbia’s integration in the new year and underlined the need for reforms as part of the integration process. As minister of foreign affairs of Slovakia, which currently chairs the Visegrad Group, pointed out the successful experience of regional cooperation of Central European countries and the need to build a similar quality of relations between the countries of Southeastern Europe.

During his visit in Belgrade, Dzurinda also met with Serbian President Boris Tadic. Both sides agreed on the need for the earliest possible beginning of a dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, with EU support, which is in everyone’s interest. Talks also dealt with bilateral relations between the Slovak Republic and Serbia and intensifying bilateral economic cooperation.
