BRATISLAVA, September 5, (WEBNOVINY) — The governing coalition member MOST-HID party, which represents interests of ethnic Hungarians in Slovakia, has no contact with the Hungarian ruling party Fidesz, stated Laszlo Solymos, head of MOST-HID deputy caucus, speaking for SITA news agency. “We have tried to establish correct partnership relations right after the parliamentary elections, but also before them. Our efforts were turned down. It is Fidesz’s decision. We do not question it. We consider it their business,” Solymos remarked. He stressed that MOST-HID has been clearly rejected by Fidesz, while nothing can be done about it at present. “We are sorry about it, as it is unnecessary. It is not for the benefit of things. We have a number of issues where we could find a common language as partners. It is a pity,” he added.

According to Solymos, Fidesz’s rejection of the MOST-HID party can be deciphered from a recent statement of the Speaker of Hungarian Parliament, Laszlo Kover, who spoke about parties which in countries where a Hungarian minority lives, collaborate with parties of the ethnic majority. “I don’t know what that means for them. We do not consider cooperation of partners to be collaboration,” he stated. Solymos stressed the importance of forming correct relations, for which partners are needed. He went on to say that in some issues affecting ethnic minorities, such as the citizenship law, or the law on languages of ethnic minorities, they “feel a certain lack of trust toward a certain minority”. According to Solymos, the lack of trust prevents closeness of coalition partners and ability to resolve issues.

MOST-HID does not get invitations to meetings of the Forum of Deputies of the Carpathian Basin, either. “The only problem we see is that it [the forum] falls under the Hungarian Parliament,” he said. According to him, there is nothing wrong about meeting of deputies of Hungarian origin, exchanging information and establishing cooperation.
