BRATISLAVA, June 22, (WEBNOVINY) — Independent MP Andrej Durkovsky who was Mayor of Bratislava until the communal elections in November of last year after he was expelled from the KDH does not have to fear for his freedom yet. The police say that the Office to Fight against Corruption has not asked the prosecutor to turn to parliament to strip the MP of immunity in the case of the Bratislava culture and leisure park PKO over a suspicious he may have committed a crime of violating duties in administration of the entrusted property as the NOVY CAS daily reported in its Wednesday’s issue.

Spokeswoman for the Police Presidium Andrea Dobiasova says that the supervising prosecutor ordered the investigator to send him the file for check every time after each one procedural act is completed. Based on this prosecutor’s order the investigator sent the file for control on June 3. It is not true that the investigator filed a request to the prosecutor office to ask parliament for stripping immunity of a person, she added. Dobiasova said that the investigation continues in the case and if any significant progress is achieved the police will inform of it, based on consent of the investigator and the prosecutor office.

Neither former party mates nor members of other ruling coalition deputy clubs will support Durkovsky in the event that parliament received a proposal to strip him of deputy immunity. “KDH MPs have always complied with such request and I expect they will do so also now ,” said KDH Deputy Chairman Pavol Abrhan. Also chairman of the MOST-HID deputy club Laszlo Solymos expressed a similar opinion. “MOST deputies will not prevent explaining the matter. It is important for Durkovsky as well that things are clarified,” said Solymos.

The Office to Fight Against Corruption has been investigating the case of start of demolition works on PKO buildings for several months. The case started back in 2005 when the Bratislava City Hall agreed to the sale of landplots on which the PKO buildings stand. According to NOVY CAS, the police suspect that the ex-mayor did not have a mandate to issue a permit to start demolishing the buildings.

Durkovsky was a member of the KDH leadership and he made it to parliament in 2010 on the KDH slate. However he had to leave his party meanwhile over scandals related to his mayoral era.
