Office of Slovak Parliament to Change Remuneration System

BRATISLAVA, January 30, (WEBNOVINY) – Employees of the Office of the Slovak Parliament received general remuneration of up to 140 percent of their salaries twice a year under the previous government. Chief of the office Michal Niznan says that the pays could be perceived as the 13th and 14th salaries. The staff members could get a bonus of up to 100 percent of wage in June and up to 140 percent in December. Niznan decided to cancel this system and limited the sum allotted for remuneration.

Niznan reduced the budget for remuneration to eighty percent in December 2010. Nonetheless, not all staffers were granted extra pays. Niznan issued instructions to individual directors to evaluate the performance of employees and reallocate the funds available. He admitted that some employees were outraged because they were used to additional pays of 120 to 140 percent of their monthly salary.

General provision of remuneration is not appropriate, the head of the office says. If someone goes to work regularly and delivers solid performance, he/she receives a monthly salary. Remuneration should be provided when employee does something extra, argues Niznan. He mentioned as an example employees of the IT division who had to reprogram the web site of the Slovak parliament and construct a mechanism for posting contracts on the Internet.
