BRATISLAVA, September 6, (WEBNOVINY) — The twenty-second parliamentary session in the current election term, which started on Tuesday, will devote attention also to the petition initiated by the Union of Pensioners of Slovakia titled For a Fair Valorization of Pensions. Opposition deputy for the SMER-SD party Branislav Ondrus proposed including the petition on the agenda of the parliamentary session, in spite of the fact that only 97,000 persons signed the petition, while 100,000 are needed in order for a petition to be debated in parliament. Pensioners object to the change in valorization of pensions by the so-called pension inflation.

Seventy-two deputies supported the proposal to include the petition in the agenda of the session. Ludovit Kanik and Tatiana Rosova (SDKU-DS), as well as Radoslav Prochazka (KDH) voted together with the opposition. Following approval of the session’s agenda, the plenum started discussing the first point of the almost one hundred planned for this session, which is the draft amendment to the law on the support of tourism penned by Transport Minister Jan Figel (KDH).

The agenda of the current session features some ambitious plans, such as the cancellation of deputy immunity from prosecution, cancellation of the so-called Meciar’s amnesties, and election of the head of the National Security Office. Furthermore, the tax and payroll levy reform is to be debated, which is to bring considerable changes in taxes and payroll levies as of next year. The coalition is not unanimous on the reform issues in spite of extensive talks and it will likely be put off until later.
