BRATISLAVA, July 12, (WEBNOVINY) — Employees will not be able to decide whether they would receive from their employer meal vouchers or financial contribution for their meal in cash. The Parliament did not adopt the Ordinary People group of MPs‘ proposal for changes to the amendment to the Labor Code. The draft amendment should be finally approved on Wednesday, however, the four Ordinary People MPs announced to vote in its favor only in the case that their proposal for changes would pass.

Out of 150 deputies, 70 supported the changes and 62 were against. Five ruling coalition MPs from KDH and SDKU-DS‘ Stanislav Janis decided not to support the proposal.

“We do not abolish meal vouchers; we only introduce the possibility for the people to decide freely,” said Ordinary People leader Igor Matovic during the discussion. Meal vouchers issuers protested against the proposal in front of the parliament on Monday, claiming, that adopting the measure would mean 15,000 people would lose their jobs and prices in restaurants would increase.

On the other hand, the Parliament adopted another proposal for change to the draft dealing with the meal voucher system: Ludovit Kanik’s initiative to limit the fees for mediating catering services to 3 percent of the value of the voucher. According to Kanik, current fees are excessive – over 6 percent of the voucher’s value.
