BRATISLAVA, September 27, (WEBNOVINY) — Slovakia cannot be a holdout to consolidation of the euro and solving the debt crisis in the European Union. “I am convinced that our senior political leadership will become sufficiently aware of that,” said Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic at the press briefing on Tuesday after his talks with visiting German President Christian Wulff. Major part of their discussion was dedicated to the future of the euro and the European Union. Gasparovic indicated that he wants to meet with representatives of parties in parliament again and he did not rule out he would give a speech in parliament prior to the vote on the extended eurozone bailout fund as well.

The German head of the state opines that discussion on the assistance to the debt-stricken eurozone members held in Slovakia is very difficult because Slovakia has proceeded in an exemplary manner whether regarding preservation of healthy banks or observation of criteria for euro adoption, stabilization policy and last but not least citizens that have had to withstand a lot. Internal political situation and discussion in Slovakia on this issue is therefore much more difficult than in other countries, President Wulff thinks.
