Slovakia Hosts NATO Military Committee Conference

VYSOKE TATRY, September 17, (WEBNOVINY) – On Friday, a three-day conference of the NATO Military Committee, which is the alliance’s top military authority has commenced in the High Tatras, the town of Stary Smokovec. Chiefs of defense of all 28 NATO member states, headed by Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Giampaolo di Paola will tackle transformation of the organization, and future operations under its command. The conference is held under auspices of the General Staff of the Slovak Armed Forces and the Defense Ministry. A national working group specially set up to organize the event and members of the NATO International Military Staff co-participate in the preparations. The host of the conference is Chief of the General Staff of the Slovak Armed Forces, General Lubomir Bulik. Slovakia’s Prime Minister Iveta Radicova will take the floor as well to welcome the guests.

High on the agenda is a debate on possibilities to increase NATO’s operation with limited funding. The program features as well a new NATO strategic concept, and operations of international crisis management, with focus o the ISAF and KFOR operations.

The conference of NATO Military Committee is held under strict security measures. NATO Military Committee comprises military chiefs of defense of all 28 NATO member states. They meet at least three times a year.
