BRATISLAVA, October 12, (WEBNOVINY) — Speaker of Slovak Parliament Richard Sulik (SaS) will be probably recalled from his post if he turns a deaf ear to the Prime Minister Iveta Radicova’s appeal on him from last night to resign. KDH Deputy Chairman Pavol Abrhan told SITA news agency that the Speaker of Parliament failed and therefore he no longer has his trust. A member of the SDKU-DS Presidium Ondrej Matej thinks that Sulik does not have a mandate to execute the post of speaker of parliament. “In the night he did not behave as a constitutional official. He behaved as a egocentric maniac and I will behave accordingly in relation to him,” he told SITA. Several politicians of the coalition confirmed for SITA that Sulik is likely to go. Also the opposition SMER-SD would support the proposal for Sulik’s dismissal. However the party of Robert Fico will not submit such proposal on its own.

After three coalition parties suffered a loss in the merged parliamentary vote in the night on the eurozone bailout fund and a government confidence vote because Sulik’s SaS chose to reject the changes to the enhanced bailout mechanism. Prime Minister Iveta Radicova told him afterward to behave as a man and step down. She addressed the same appeal to cabinet ministers of Sulik’s party as well. KDH Chairman Jan Figel joined the appeal of Iveta Radicova, too.

Parliament voted shortly after ten p.m. to not pass the changes to the European bailout fund and to not voice confidence in the Cabinet of Iveta Radicova. The merged vote was the initiative of Prime Minister Iveta Radicova who intended to force the SaS to support the enhanced European Financial Stability Facility in this way.

SaS Chairman and Parliament Speaker Richard Sulik said at news conference following the coalition’s failure that he does not see even the smallest reason for his resignation only on the basis that it is the wish of Iveta Radicova. “Of course, I will accept my recall with humility, Sulik writes on the SaS website.
