BRATISLAVA, October 17, (WEBNOVINY) — The Association of Towns and Villages of Slovakia (ZMOS) wants to hold talks with parliamentary parties about its fundamental attitude to funding and the competencies self-governments of villages and towns and their financing. “The Association of Towns and Villages of Slovakia is beginning its planned talks with parliamentary parties,” ZMOS president Jozef Dvonc confirmed. Self-governments have confirmed their dismissive position to the tax mix originally proposed by the Finance Ministry to finance local self-governments.
“We will be very glad if political parties embrace our positions and arguments and incorporate them subsequently into their election programs, which we perceive as a moral obligation to supporters and sympathizers,” Dvonc said, adding that championing the principles of local territorial self-governments, unambiguous partnership with the state regarding distribution of powers and stable funding for towns and villages would be the main topics of the meetings.
Dvonc went on to say that the Slovak Republic and its citizens need cohesion that guarantees success in critical times. ZMOS will, therefore, appeal to political parties not to risk further instability and not to support a budget for next year that would introduce a tax mix to fund self-governments. Dvonc concluded that damages of this experiment would intensify the crisis, harming citizens the most.
