KOSICE, March 29, (WEBNOVINY) – Last year, the Constitutional Court received five proposals to start disciplinary action against judges. Court president Ivetta Macejkova told SITA on Tuesday that two motions, on which the court has not decided yet regard Supreme Court President and head of the Judicial Council Stefan Harabin. According to her, the judges are presently studying the motions in detail. Macejkova was not able to specify the date of issuing the decisions, however, she believes that it will happen shortly. She said that the Constitutional Court plenum, which has been currently dealing with 139 election-related complaints is to decide on the motions against Harabin.

Two proposals for disciplinary procedure against Supreme Court President Stefan Harabin have been filed by Justice Minister Lucia Zitnanska. She proposed to cut his salary by 70 percent for one year. In the first motion from November of last year, Zitnanska wants the Constitutional Court to start disciplinary action against Harabin for serious disciplinary violation he committed when he did not allow the audit group of the Ministry of Finance to conduct a government audit at the Supreme Court. The minister also lodged a second motion later in November because she was convinced that Harabin seriously violated the duty of a judicial official, which seriously compromises the trustworthiness of the judiciary in connection with changes in the work schedule at the Supreme Court, disrespecting the principle of random assignment of cases to individual judges.
