BRATISLAVA , April 6, (WEBNOVINY) — Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban is able to produce a conflict in central Europe with his revisionist policy, thinks opposition SMER-SD leader Robert Fico. He finds it a mistake that the governing coalition had thwarted the SMER-initiated parliamentary session where the party wanted to urge the government to implement a more active policy towards Budapest. “Somebody is profoundly mistaken when thinking that Orban is not able of producing a conflict in the European environment, at the heart of Europe. He has all prerequisites for it,” said the leader of the strongest opposition party in Slovakia.

Fico believes that also the new wording of the Hungarian Constitution will help promote Hungarian irredentism. “It is a constitution which negates the existence of the Trianon Treaty, it is a constitution which negates setting of spheres of influence of borders and territories after the end of world wars and, it is a constitution, which creates the groundwork for Hungary to implement its irredentist policy, Great Hungarian ideas,” he warned. The party will submit the draft resolution urging the government to adopt resolute steps and statements in reaction to Hungary’s policy towards Slovakia, which was to be on the agenda of an unscheduled parliamentary session that has not taken place to the agenda of the regular session of parliament in May.

Fico blames mainly MOST-HID leader Bela Bugar of passivity towards Budapest. He keeps the whole government in a trap, as it cannot rule without his party. Prime Minister Radicova has been trapped as well as she is a „personal friend“ of Viktor Orban who attended her presidential campaign to directly offer her his support. However, the remaining coalition members are in not in a better situation, according to the SMER-SD leader. The KDH can do nothing, continued Fico as otherwise they would not be part of the ruling coalition and the SaS has not comprehended thus far what is going on.

Fico said that his government used to act in the issues of national interest in sharp contrast with its successor. He mentioned the decision not to permit entry of the then Hungarian President Laszlo Solyom to the territory of Slovakia and the adoption of the amendment to the citizenship law.
